Community Investment

Gallagher was formed in 2000 in the North-West of England and while we have grown strongly over the years we have never lost that family feel to our business. When we work in a region we employ locally and believe that we should engage with the local communities. This passion for engaging can been seen in the community and charity work which we undertake. A few examples:

Kathryn Duckworth working with Year 9 students

Kathryn Duckworth working with Year 9 students

A small school where over 50% of the pupils don’t have English as their first language and many who speak very little English at all. This is the second year that we have worked with the students of the school to provide support and guidance during their ‘Enterprise Week’, last year the schools winning entry made it through to the Regional Finals in Manchester.

This year our Commercial Director (Kathryn Duckworth) helped to mentor Year 9 students competing in the “Coca Cola Business Challenge”. The challenge was to invent, research, brand, market and present a new juice drink that Coca Cola might look to invest in. Connected to the Special Olympics, the fruits from the drink had to be selected from one of the participating countries. The pupils all had roles in the business and had to fully participate to qualify for their Enterprise sticker. At the end of the day, each team presented to the judges who scored the entries against the brief. The winning entry has been put forward for the regional finals.

All through the week, the pupils are required to put in 100% attendance and collect stickers from each of the lessons they attend. Only those pupils that collect all the stickers are eligible for the prize draw at the end of the week for one of two iPad minis. Last year the school recorded full attendance for the three weeks before and following their ‘Enterprise Week’ which demonstrates the interest generated for the students. Tom Gallagher presented the winners with their prizes at the school assembly.
